Three Popular Dental Treatments To Replace Missing Teeth

Missing TeethIf you are missing teeth, do not fret.  There are plenty of options available to replace those missing chompers.  From dentures to dental implants and bridges, there are numerous ways to replace your missing teeth without hindering your ability to eat and talk.  Here is a look at some popular options available to those who are missing teeth.

Missing Teeth? Here are dental treatment options for you

Bridges

Bridges are an excellent option to replace missing teeth when teeth are located on one of the sides of the missing tooth.  The bridge is a fixed solution that remains firmly within the mouth. When choosing a bridge, there is a chance that we will have to cut down the teeth on the sides of the missing tooth in order to connect them to another. People can keep the area clean with floss threaders.

The downside to bridges is having to file down the teeth. Furthermore, bridges within the lower jaw probably will not last as long as those in the upper jaw due to the flexing of the lower portion.  A bridge that does not bend has the potential to spring a leak on either side that permits decay and the subsequent spread of bacteria. However, bridges are excellent solutions for some patients, especially for people who are missing one or two teeth in specific locations.

Dental Implants

Dental implants cost more than most other solutions for missing teeth yet they are worth the investment.  Dental implants typically last about two decades. Dental implants look like natural teeth. They also function like natural teeth when brushing, flossing, eating, smiling and so on.  The dental implant serves as a root replacement. An abutment connects to the titanium implant. We then cement the crown on top to resemble an actual tooth. No one will have any idea you are using dental implants.  The dental implants blend in that well with regular teeth.

Dentures

Dentures have been a popular dental treatment to replace missing teeth for decades.  Removable partial dentures are especially popular for those missing teeth toward the front of the mouth.  This style of denture is worn in the day to conceal one or several gaps in the mouth. A partial denture might require metal clasps.  This is one of the primary drawbacks as metal clasps are visible when smiling, speaking, laughing etc.

It is also possible for removable partial dentures to slightly move when eating or speaking.  The best approach is to take the dentures out at night so they can be thoroughly cleaned and soaked.  Choose a partial denture and it will not be necessary to file teeth down. Furthermore, partial dentures are affordable compared to other dental treatments designed to replace missing teeth.

Choose a full denture and you can replace all of the missing teeth in your mouth.  Temporary dentures are more of a short-term solution for missing teeth. Also known as a “flipper” as it flips in and out with ease, temporary dentures are used in instances when the tooth is to be restored with either a dental implant or a bridge after healing occurs.  Flippers are more affordable than removable partial dentures but not as bulky or sturdy.
